( W h y   W e   F i g h t )
This is a message of good cheer to all the People, to let Them know that They have behind Them art workers who will not flinch or weary of the struggle - hard and protracted though it will be; but that we shall rather draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival, and of a victory won not only for ourselves but for all - a victory won not only for our own time, but for the long and better days that are to come.

Long, dark years of trials and tribulations lie before us. Not only great dangers, but many misfortunes, many shortcomings, many mistakes, many disappointments will surely be our lot. Lies and despair will be the companions of our journey; hardship our garment; constancy and valor our only shield. We must be united, we must be undaunted, we must be inflexible. Our qualities and deeds must burn and glow through the gloom of the World until they become the veritable beacon of the cultural rebirth of the People.

Take the message and fling it wide,
Come, ye People, and see
There is power in the Art,
Making prisoners free!
Take it over the rolling main,
Till, when the nations revere Its name,
Peace shall cover the earth again
As waters cover the sea.

Then if a soldier you would be,
Come along and go with me;
'Neath our banner, Blood and Fire,
Stand to arms!

Under the Blood and Fire flag,
Brave deeds have been done,
And great victories won,
Under the Blood and Fire flag.

We're marching on, we're marching on,
We're marching on together;
God bless the artists round the world,
And keep us true for ever.

We shall conquer all,
Only keep believing; we shall never, never fall!
We shall conquer all,
Trusting in our Labor, we shall conquer all.

Some through the water, and some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the Blood;
Some through deep sorrow, but still with the song:

We are marching on,
Honest and brave;
We are marching on,
To free the slave;
We are marching on,
The world to save;
We are marching on,
Marching on to victory!

Fighting, fighting on the narrow way;
The way is rough, the fight tough,
But we shall win the day!

Never say die!
Steadily keep advancing,
Readily face the foe!
Never say die!
Steadily keep advancing,
Forward go!

Good night, then: sleep to gather strength for the morning. For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn. Long live the forward march of the People in all the lands towards their just and true inheritance, and towards the broader and fuller age.
